2005

The 2005 Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show was completely sold out with 210 companies exhibiting in the 287 exhibit spaces. Corporate Sponsors for the Show were SaskEnergy, SaskPower, Apache Canada Ltd., EnCana Corporation, Saskatchewan Industry and Resources and Nexen Canada Ltd. The exhibits of equipment and technology were very impressive and the exhibitors were very pleased with the quality and quantity of traffic through their booths. A Golf Tournament and Barbecue of steak and lobster, a Centennial Luncheon with Hank Swartout as speaker and the Oil Patch Hall of Fame Award winners and a banquet with the SE Oilman of the Year brought a lot if interest to the Show.

The steak and lobster barbecue was attended by 900 people. The Centennial Luncheon had 300 attend.

The Saskatchewan Oilman of the Year Award was presented to Brian Schmidt, President of Apache Canada Ltd. for his role at Apache and their demonstrated Outstanding Corporate Commitment to Saskatchewan.

  Hall of Fame Inductees - 2005  

The Hall of Fame Inductees were Leonard Maier retired from Halliburton and now consulting, Jack Williams President and CEO of Adeco Exploration Company, Norman Robertson retired from ATCO where he held many positions, Victor Zaleschuk, Director of Nexen Inc. and Agrium Inc. and Bob Reid retired from many positions in the oil industry including President of Duke’s Canadian operations.

The SE Saskatchewan Oilman of the Year was presented to Wilf Skjonsby past superintendent of PanCanadian Ltd. and now running his own business Southeast Oilfield Services Ltd. (SOS) .

  Approximately 1000 people enjoyed the Wednesday evening “steak or lobster” dinner which featured the presentation of the Southeast Saskatchewan Oilman of the Year Award, presented to Weyburn resident Wilf Skjonsby, and the Bruce Wilson Roast.
Bruce Wilson, Assistant Deputy Minister Industry & Resources, Petroleum and Natural Gas has been a staunch supporter of the Saskatchewan.

  The show, which was “sold out”, featured a Centennial Luncheon with guest speaker Hank Swartout, CEO Precision Drilling Corporation followed by the presentation of the 2005 Saskatchewan Oil Patch Awards on Wednesday noon. The Board of Governors presented Brian Schmidt, President of Apache Canada Ltd., with the prestigious Saskatchewan Oilman of the Year Award for his role at Apache and their demonstrated Outstanding Corporate Commitment to Saskatchewan.   Hank Swartout
